Reserve Program

The Memphis/Shelby County Emergency Management Agency has a group of people on "stand-by" to help in emergencies and disasters.

The reservists serve under the direction of the EMA Director. They assist in the
Emergency Operations Center by staffing telephones, posting disaster events, and
assisting city-county departments in coordinating responses.

When not involved during emergencies, the team works with local civic leaders and
church groups in making presentations on disaster preparedness. The group is often
seen at festivals, neighborhood fairs, and other events giving tours of the EMA Mobile
Emergency Operations Center.

The group is currently teaching the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program. This program trains citizens on how to respond to disaster needs in their neighborhoods. This course is an overview of the disaster threats in Memphis/Shelby County as well as basic first aid, fire suppression and light search and rescue.

For more information on becoming a reservist, or to schedule a CERT program for your community, contact Wendy Cantrell at 458-1515.
